The Computer Literacy Specialist will assist job seekers gain employment by providing one on one computer coaching, assisting with online job applications and by offering computer classes to increase skills, advance careers and earn livable wage.



  • Teaches basic computer and digital literacy in person and on online platforms.

  • Actively follows up with clients to track and report their progress. Assists clients to submit online job applications quickly and efficiently

  • Trains and supervises a staff of 6-8 Computer Lab Volunteers (CLVs) who deliver basic computer literacy training offers support and guidance to CLVs to make their experience fulfilling and beneficial to clients. Communicates directly with CLVs to ensure their awareness of program goals, events, activities, and news.

  • Works without intensive supervision, exercises autonomy in daily work content and uses considerable discretion in making day-to-day decisions on the allocation of volunteer resources and on handling challenging client situations, including the enforcement of decorum in the computer lab.

  • Recommends curriculum enhancements and ideally takes primary responsibility for developing basic computer literacy curriculum as well as more advanced computer skills training including digital literacy.

  • Identifies third party computer literacy training programs that can be accessed by MAM clients at no cost.


  • Maintains a weekly work schedule of CLVs

  • Supervises the computer lab and enforces the rules of the computer lab

  • Maintains office hours for all Employment Service clients; works with clients to understand their obstacles to computer literacy and helps them to overcome them; is very hands-on in providing assistance to clients when CLVs are unavailable.

  • Provides regular follow ups.

  • Ensures that computer lab equipment is being cared for properly by users. Data entry of all computer training and computer lab usage efforts Attends meetings, staff events and other MAM functions

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; degree in computer sciences field preferred

  • Three years general office environment experience Commitment to the MAM mission

  • Demonstrated ability to work with persons from all walks of life and treat them with dignity and respect.

  • Must have the ability to effectively provide instruction to clients in person and on online platforms. Must have the ability to multitask

  • Must have strong interpersonal skills

  • Must have knowledge on how to operate and maintain printers, projectors, scanners, speakers, and other equipment used in the computer lab.

  • Must have excellent communication and troubleshooting skills.

  • Mastery of basic computer literacy subjects (internet, email, online job searches and application, MS Word, MS Office).

  • Must have a general knowledge of Houston job market and online application process. Must be tech savvy and willing to learn new technology on ongoing basis

  • Ability to command the respect of volunteers, and to involve, motivate and recognize them in program activities.

  • Associates degree or higher in a computer-oriented program, OR a high school diploma plus five years of experience in a computer-intensive position.

Work Conditions/Work Environment:

Primary work location is a climate-controlled indoor office environment. This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

This position will be required to work 100% at the MAM office due to being assigned to the computer lab. The employee must be accessible to those utilizing the lab.
