Department Description

Pathways for Young Adults Program is an engaging, results-driven program that provides young adults between the ages of 16 and 24 opportunities for career exploration, vocational training and experiential opportunities that provide a solid foundation necessary for career success in adulthood. The program follows MAM’s philosophy of coaching, providing individualized, strengths-based support to each participant, connections to complimentary services and supports, and access to life skills training and financial resources as needed. Services are both school and community-based. Key program components include: one-on-one Job Coaching, Job Readiness Training, Vocational Training and Financial Assistance.

Summary

The Pathways for Young Adults Program Coordinator: 

  • Manages the day-to-day activities of the program, including community outreach and recruitment of participants. 

  • Leads program orientation sessions and assessment meetings and educates and motivates participants as they work to achieve goals developed jointly as part of the individualized service plans.

  • Monitors participant activity to ensure that they complete the required assignments (steps to achieve their goals) within the time allotted and that all activities are properly recorded in the database.

  • Administers job search-related financial assistance to participants in the form of vouchers.

  • Provides information and connections to other supports and services available at MAM and in the community.

Responsibilities Include:
  • Effectively stewards relationships key to the program’s success (schools, community-based partners, faith-partners, etc.)

  • Ensures that each client meets the requirements of program participation, effectively participates in all program assessment and follow up activities

  • Ensures that each client’s service plan includes meaningful, attainable, measurable goals related to obtaining self-supporting employment with specific, measurable and calendared action steps

  • Regularly follows up with participants and ensures that all client interactions, classes and other deliverables are properly documented in the client file and in the agency database (ETO) in a thorough and timely manner

  • Provides one-on-one job coaching, builds rapport and trust with participants and provides on-going support and encouragement

  • Offers Job Readiness Trainings at various locations as scheduled, including in schools, community-based organizations, etc.

  • Identifies age appropriate trainings and opportunities to the participants

  • Identifies resources to assist participants with career exploration, scholarships and financial aid opportunities, including submitting college applications

  • Makes daily commitments of MAM resources through the issuance of vouchers or use of an agency credit card to pay for job search-related financial assistance
    • Recruits qualified participants for vocational trainings and other learning opportunities and follows up with them to ensure attendance and that homework and other assignments are completed.

  • Leads trainings and conducts presentations about the program independently

  • Works with moderate supervision, exercises autonomy in daily work content and uses discretion in making day-to-day decisions on the allocation of volunteer resources and on handling challenging client situations

  • Attends meetings, staff events and other MAM functions

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • Commitment to the MAM mission.

  • Demonstrated ability to work with young adults from all walks of life and treat them with dignity and respect.

  • Ability to command the respect of volunteers, and to involve, motivate and recognize them in program activities.

  • Strong interpersonal skills at both the individual and group level; specifically, the ability to listen empathetically to participants and to suggest corrective courses of action persuasively;

  • Excellent organizational skills with ability to prioritize tasks in an environment with no support staff.

  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in business administration or human resource management plus three years of coaching/training experience; OR Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in a social science plus five years of coaching/training experience in a business

  • Self-sufficient in MS Office, email, Internet, etc.

  • Skills and confidence in both developing and presenting presentations and workshops to groups of participant clients or professionals

  • English fluency (read, write, speak and understand)

  • Reliable use of smart phone in order to communicate via email and text message.

Physical Demands:

  • Regularly required to talk or hear

  • Regularly is required to stand, walk, sit, use keyboard, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms

  • Required to have the ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds

  • Required to remain at their workstation for prolonged periods of time

  • Primary work location is a climate-controlled indoor office environment.
