Memorial Assistance Ministries Names 2017 Champions for Families Chairs

March 16, 2017

HOUSTON, TX - Memorial Assistance Ministries is pleased to announce Chris and Sarah Weekley as Chairs for the 2017 Champions for Families Campaign, an annual fund to support MAM’s services to help local families when they need it most.

“Sarah and I are relatively new to the MAM Family and excited to serve as Chairs for this year’s Champions for Families Campaign,” stated Chris Weekley. “The variety of services MAM offers the community and the sheer number of families served each year is impressive. Family is very important to us and we feel compelled to give to those who may be facing some of life’s more serious struggles.”

Champions for Families 2017 will kick-off on March 21st with Cheers to Our Champions, a private event held at MAM to show appreciation to donors. This annual event also serves as a time to showcase what MAM accomplishes through community support. Over 6,000 families walk into the doors each year at MAM looking for help. Some can’t pay their rent or buy a much-needed medical prescription. Some are looking for a job and need to learn how to use a computer to write a resume or speak English. And others are trying to clothe their child for school or purchase a pair of reading glasses. All of the families have had at least one crisis that forces them to turn to MAM for help. Champions for Families members provide the much needed funding that allows MAM to say, “Yes, we can help you stay in your home. Then we can help you learn skills that will help you make a better life for your family.”

“It is easy for us to go through our daily lives working on our own concerns, but MAM always helps to ground us in the fact that we have been beyond blessed with more than we need and there are families in our very same neighborhoods who are struggling. When we work together, our entire community becomes a better place to live,” added Chris.

Chris is Vice President of Central Living at David Weekley Homes, and an alumnus of Vanderbilt University and Acton School of Business. He and his wife Sarah are active members of Chapelwood United Methodist Church and have five children. Chris joined the MAM Board of Directors in January of 2016 wanting to help those less fortunate. He comes from a family who believes in giving back to the community.

MAM was created by the local faith community in 1983 to provide basic needs to northwest Houston families. Their programming is viewed as giving a “hand up” rather than a “hand out,” and their philosophy of service is one of personalized support, believing that every client is capable, creative, and whole. Clients enter MAM’s doors seeking a particular service and are then referred and encouraged to look into additional programs that may help them continue to improve their lives. In 2016, 6,635 families were impacted by programs and services they received at MAM.
