At the end of November 2025, MAM’s West Campus (Wilcrest) officially closed its doors. While this chapter has come to an end, the impact, memories, and lives touched there will always remain part of MAM’s story.
Most importantly, our services did not stop.
Even with the closure of the West Campus, MAM continues supporting families as they take their next steps toward stability and opportunity. Our staff and volunteers remain active across different locations, and many services are temporarily hosted at member congregations during this transition period.
And this is not an ending.✨ A new place is already on the way. In 2026, MAM will open a new building, full of possibility, growth, and hope. ✨
We close this chapter with full hearts, grateful for every client, volunteer, partner, and staff member who made West what it was. Hope doesn’t end — it moves forward.
The Story of MAM’s West Campus
The West Campus carries a powerful legacy rooted in literacy, education, and opportunity.
In November 2018, Memorial Assistance Ministries (MAM Houston) acquired Literacy Advance of Houston, an organization that had been transforming lives through adult literacy since 1964. With this transition, Literacy Advance officially became part of the MAM family, expanding both organizations’ ability to serve more families with deeper, wraparound support.
To honor and continue Literacy Advance’s mission, MAM assumed operations of adult ESL classes at the West Campus (Wilcrest). Over the next several years, the campus became a welcoming place for people from all over the world — a doorway to learning, confidence, and new opportunities.
At the West Campus, MAM offered:
ESL classes
Citizenship preparation
Digital Literacy
Employment Services
Financial Empowerment programs
Thousands of stories were written there! Parents learned English to support their children’s education, adults built job skills to advance their careers, and families gained tools to move toward long-term stability.
Literacy was never the end goal — it was the beginning. Each class, coaching session, and volunteer-led lesson helped people move closer to their personal, professional, and family goals.
A Legacy That Continues
The West Campus may be closed, but its mission lives on through MAM’s ongoing work and future expansion. The lessons learned, the community built, and the lives changed there continue to shape who we are and where we’re going.
Thank you to everyone who walked through those doors, gave their time, trusted MAM with their journey, and helped turn this campus into a place of belonging and possibility.
The story continues — and the best chapters are still ahead 💙
